2015 – Message
It is 5 September 2015 outside the rain is falling softly and tomorrow we have our 3rd Spring Bring & Braai and on the one hand I hope that the weather clears and that we have a great day tomorrow, on the other hand we also need the rain after a dry winter. I was supposed be preparing my 1800S for tomorrow…you can’t wash a car in the rain – or you can if you wanted to. My Dad always said rather a wet clean car than a wet dirty car!
It has been more than a year that our new website is up and running and we try to keep it as up to date as possible, what makes it nice is that content can be changed by us. What is a bit concerning is that we have the Members Gallery where Club members can have their story published with photos – all one needs to do is to write something, select a few photies and email it to me or to Eddy…and we will make sure it is put up and there for the whole world to see and admire! Long gone are the days where we put our Volvo’s in a barn and lock it up…and lock our stories away in the deepest parts of our memories and the day we pass on, it is lost forever and many years later someone makes a barn find and gone are your Volvo’s! Keep the memory alive by sharing it.
From a Club point of view we are doing fine, not growing from a membership point of view, pretty stable numbers over the last few years. This is of some concern as what we see happening is members not renewing their membership for some reason and new people joining, had those stayed that “left” us, we would be growing. 2015 saw 24 new members join the Club, we have about 17 2014 members that did not renew.
We also enjoy support from Volvo Cars South Africa and some of the dealerships which is really fantastic, this just goes to show that they have a keen interest in the heritage of Volvo and we the Club, we are the guardians/ custodians of that heritage. This year we were invited to display our classic Volvos at 3 XC90 launches! We have been invited to display a classic Volvo at every track day that is held at Zwartkops Raceway. Our members have further been involved in TWO movies already and a third one is being filmed later this year where we have been invited to provide a LDH classic Volvo. Members Volvo’s have been in at least 3 maybe 4 TV adverts, the latest one the Momentum ad that is running on TV with a nice bright yellow 850R wagon! The best is that our members who provide the cars are compensated handsomely – just goes to show that the Club does benefit a member in other ways as well. I often get questions, what do I get out of it, do I get discount…and and. People need to learn that before you can receive you need to give. Membership per annum – costs slightly more than one bottle of Bells (yes ONE). Dinner for two at the Spur will cost you more.
May you experience spring in your life, renewed energy and a hippity hop in your step. Until next time. Loggies signing off.
