I was one year old when we had moved to Zambia where we resided for 9 years and returned to SA in 1973, during the years in Zambia my father had owned a few cars that are considered classics today – a 1962 Jaguar 3.4 MkII, a 1965 Jaguar 3.8 S (S – type) which he rolled with 3000 miles on the clock at quite a high speed when the rear brakes locked on a wet road.

He then drove a 1967 Mustang Fast Back which I will buy today without hesitation! A German Opel Diplomat followed, wow what a car that was, and then it was sold and we came to South Africa and my father bought a 1970 Volvo 122S B20, grey with red upholstery, in 1973.

My1eVolvos#17 This was our family car until 1979 when dad went back to Jags.
In the Volvo we grew up and the engine packed up in 1980 until I bought it from him in 1981 for R600 and it became my student car in Pretoria, and I can tell you few stories of what happened there. Off to the army and in 1985 I bought a 1963 P1800 (left hand drive)
Honeymoon#11 I was forced to sell both the 122 and P1800 in 1989 and moved over to Opel, yes Howard Opel’s, owned a 1989 GSI, a 1991 GSI 16V (wow) and then a 1993 Opel Calibra (big WOW).

Yet I was disillusioned and unhappy because I didn’t own a Volvo anymore and in 2004 decided to get back to Volvo’s and acquired a 1968 122S in August 2004, in April 2005 a 1969 1800S B20, in April 2006 a 1960 544 and I was happy so I thought.A 1967 122 station wagon followed which is currently being restored and then a 1960 445 which is also now being restored, and last year I came across a 1973 1800 ES (left hand drive) which will be restored in a year or so.My collection is complete, so I thought until I decided to get my son (also Deon) a 122S and we acquired Oom Tom Campher’s 1967 rally 122 with trophies and all, so there is another restoration to be done. See the membership gallery.

My day to day vehicle is a 2008 C70, Henriette now drives a XC60 R Design C30 and the only vehicle I have that isn’t a Volvo is my 2015 Isuzu 4X4.

The van Loggerenberg family each has at least 1 Volvo!

Do I love Volvo’s? Decide for yourself.

Catching up on Admin or thinking out some prank?? Florida
